Cumberland County VINE Coverage
New Jersey VINE is the state custody-notification layer reached through VINELink, its mobile app, the phone service at 1-877-846-3465, or TTY at 1-866-847-1298. Official New Jersey material establishes county-jail and state-prison custody notifications. The historical statewide rollout included all 21 counties, which supports Cumberland County Jail coverage.
VINE focuses on offenders in custody and reports changes supplied by participating agencies. It can issue notice for release, transfer, escape, return from escape, unsupervised custody, out-to-court movement, DOC parole actions, and death. The event name matters. A transfer alert means that custody moved. It does not mean the person entered the community.
The system does not replace the Cumberland County release sheet or NJDOC incarceration history. It also does not cover a federal sentence at FCI Fairton or an ICE custody episode. Those require BOP or ICE records. VINE’s value is prompt notice about the reporting New Jersey custody, followed by agency confirmation.
Facility geography can mislead a search. South Woods State Prison and Bayside State Prison are in Cumberland County, but NJDOC owns their custody records. A person committed from Cumberland may also be held elsewhere in New Jersey. The VINE result’s reporting agency matters more than the county where the building sits. At the county level, Cumberland’s Department of Corrections operates the jail. An alert from that system reports a county custody change, while an NJDOC alert belongs to a state incarceration history.
Search timing matters too. Registration works best while an in-custody record is available. If the person has already disappeared from the live result, call VINE or the responsible agency and use the historical-record fallback. Do not select a different same-name record merely to create an alert. A correct but later record request is safer than an immediate alert tied to the wrong person.
Search a Cumberland Inmate on VINE
Search for one person, then verify the record before registering. A date of birth or State Bureau of Identification number, called an SBI number, can help separate people with similar names. Do not select a record only because the name looks familiar.
- Open VINELink and select New Jersey. Choose the custody or offender search, not a general web result.
- Enter the person’s name and the identifiers the interface requests. Use the date of birth or SBI when known.
- Compare possible matches. Confirm the reporting agency, facility, identifier, and available descriptive details.
- Open the matching record and note the custody status. Record the named event and any time shown.
- If no match appears, try only legitimate name variants or identifiers, then contact the responsible agency. Do not declare release from a no-hit.
- If the result says released or no longer in the reporting custody, corroborate it with the Cumberland release sheet, NJDOC Date Out-of-Custody, or court record.

Cumberland VINE Release Event Fields
The live interface may expose several fields, but public visibility can vary by agency and case. Read only what appears. New Jersey’s research inventory supports the following VINE concepts without promising that every record displays each one.

A released result means VINE indicates that the person left the reporting custody. It is not a certified final-discharge finding. The Cumberland County Department of Corrections release or movement record can provide actual release date, time, disposition, and destination. For state custody, NJDOC’s Date Out-of-Custody and later incarceration history provide the stronger historical record.
Current Max Release Date and Current Parole Eligibility Date are NJDOC calculation fields, not VINE proof of a completed release. The first is a changing maximum-date calculation. The second is a threshold for parole consideration. Neither should be substituted for an actual custody event.
Other event labels demand the same care. Escape and return from escape describe changes inside the custody sequence. Unsupervised custody and out-to-court status do not state that a sentence ended. A death alert is distinct from release. DOC parole action may concern a Board event before or after physical departure. Repeat the system’s exact event name when contacting Cumberland, NJDOC, or SPB so the agency can locate the right source record.
VINE may not show a full case history. A single current status can omit the court reason, destination, or prior custody dates needed to explain what happened. That is why the field table is a notification inventory, not a promise that every screen contains a release date. When a needed field is absent, the proper next step is agency confirmation rather than an inference.
Register Cumberland County VINE Alerts
Register while the correct in-custody record is available. New Jersey VINE supports phone, text, email, mobile app, and TTY channels. Registration is confidential. Each desired event or channel may require separate registration, so choosing one alert does not guarantee all types of notice.
- Locate and open the correct in-custody record.
- Select Register or Get Notified.
- Choose the custody events and delivery channels needed.
- Enter the destination. Additional phone numbers or email addresses may be allowed.
- For phone notice, create a memorable four-digit PIN.
- When the automated call arrives, listen and enter the PIN followed by the pound sign to acknowledge it.
- Update changed contact information. For a forgotten PIN or cancellation, use the operator option on the toll-free line.
An unanswered call may produce a message and retries until acknowledgment or for up to 24 hours. A switchboard number is a poor choice because another person may receive the call but cannot enter the registered PIN. Direct contact channels are more reliable.
Alerts support awareness, not a personal safety plan or a guarantee of timing. Agency reporting and delivery can lag. Keep the jail, NJDOC, or court confirmation route available even after successful registration.
Register separately for each notification type that matters. Multiple phone numbers or email addresses may be allowed, but adding several destinations is not the same as selecting every event. Review the saved registration and make sure release and transfer are not being treated as one outcome. If a phone PIN is forgotten, the toll-free operator can help reset the PIN or cancel the registration.
A custody-change call should be written down with its stated event, facility, date, and time. That small event log makes later confirmation more precise. It also helps distinguish an original release alert from a retry or a later return-to-custody notice.
Confirm a Cumberland VINE Release
Start with the custodian named in the alert. For Cumberland County Jail, compare the official current-person gateway and request the actual release or movement sheet through county OPRA. The live roster is still-custody oriented. Disappearance from it is not enough because bail, court movement, transfer, another warrant, state custody, federal custody, or immigration custody can all end the local display.
For a New Jersey state prisoner, open the NJDOC offender search. Check Date Out-of-Custody, current facility, and later admissions in the most recent incarceration history. If parole follows, SPB holds the supervision record. For a county court matter, PROMIS/Gavel may explain the order, although the court judgment is not the jail’s actual exit record.
NJDOC records include more historical detail than Cumberland’s current-only gateway. Useful fields can include aliases, SBI number, county of commitment, initial admission date, Date In-Custody, Date Out-of-Custody, current facility, incarceration history, sentence length, mandatory minimum, and maximum term. Compare the latest custody period, not one isolated date. A later admission can change the present status while leaving the older release event true.
If a county release alert cannot be confirmed online, call Cumberland Admissions or request the booking/release and custody movement record. Ask for the actual date and time, release disposition, and destination agency. Those fields resolve whether the event was community release, transfer, or another agency’s pickup.
Federal Correctional Institution Fairton is in Cumberland County, but a person there belongs in the BOP Inmate Locator. ICE has its own current detainee locator. VINE registration does not follow a person into every federal or immigration system. Cumberland VINE and Parole Notice
New Jersey uses a separate layer for State Parole Board victim participation. The SPB victim-services page refers users to VINELink for custody notification, but SPB participation and registration are not the same act. A VINE account does not automatically enroll someone in every SPB process.
VINE alerts can include DOC parole actions. Even then, the alert should be read as the event it names. Parole eligibility is not a grant, a grant may carry a future release date and conditions, and new information can lead to rescission before physical departure. SPB’s weekly notice can also show RELEASED, REVOKED, or RET CUSTODY events by county of commitment.
